This New Horror Film Has Debuted on Streaming, and It Might Make or Break Your Romantic Bond.

We present a dare for those in enduring partnerships who enjoy the horror genre: Sit down with your significant other and view Together. This 2025 indie hit just made its launch on a streaming platform on the Hulu service. On the surface, it could look like typical physical horror, but inside Together exists a profound contemplation about the ways we decide to love our partners.

A Directorial Debut Exploring The Nuances of Love

Together is the first full-length movie for director Michael Shanks. It showcases the real-life married couple Dave Franco and Alison Brie as Tim and Millie, a pair who are not married that have been together for a decade. Having wed in actuality in 2017, the two stars contribute a special spark to their roles, masterfully depicting both the good and bad of a long-term relationship.

The narrative starts when Millie and Tim relocate from the metropolis to the country for Millie’s job. A familiar plot device, admittedly, but that’s primarily where the conventions conclude. Together becomes as much a examination of mental states of the partnership as it is a movie featuring biological frights.

An Otherworldly Trigger

While walking near their rural residence, a tempest descends, and Millie and Tim tumble into an hole in the earth. After spending the night there and managing to escape, a strange force takes hold of the duo. This force creates a supernatural closeness between them that goes well past simple connection.

The entire film is a slow burn horror experience, blending elements of fever-dream horrors, unsettling (but never too gross) body horror, and surprisingly comedic dialogue (sometimes amidst something disturbing). Michael Shanks orchestrates these parts seamlessly and presents them in a gradually swelling aura of dread.

Nuanced Portrayals

A great deal of Together is solely the performances of its stars, and they skillfully illustrate numerous complexities to the partnership at the film's core. Her self-assurance and emotional bond is suffering due to a emotional and physical gap. Her unspoken irritation of Tim for his reluctance to focus on anything other than his failing musical ambitions inexorably rises.

In contrast, Tim's character experiences isolation and isolated by Millie, who’s the reason they’ve moved to the country and far away from his social circle. He is terrified of the concept of completely losing his individual identity in Millie. This fear is intensified by the fact he does not operate a vehicle and needs Millie for mobility.

The director's cleverest decision in this movie never makes either of his characters the definite antagonist.

Tim and Millie confront the sort of issues that arise in any relationship over a long period. Deep down, they still love one another. They still laugh together, offer support, and share intimately at times. But beneath it all, there’s an unavoidable feeling of questioning about their relationship.

Symbolism and Metaphor

While the otherworldly presence in Together act as a metaphor for these anxieties of excessive reliance and giving oneself over to a partner, the metaphor avoids being overly obvious or pretentious. Instead, these ickier, creepier moments present a ideal counterpart to the interpersonal storytelling. Both the supernatural and the personal enhance each other symbiotically.

A Divisive Ending

Together’s conclusion, which is best experienced firsthand, has sparked debate on the story's concluding statement about unhealthy partnerships. Reports indicate that single viewers have interpreted the film as a compelling reason for remaining unattached. Conversely, some couples having disagreements found that the film ended up guiding them to resolve their issues.

If you are alone or with a partner, your own response could function as a revealing measure of how you view relationships. Will the ending inspire feelings of uneasiness and dread, or a heartwarming sense of hope? Will you recognize your own traits in one of the characters and yell at the screen, or simply look at your other half and say, “I’d do that for you”?

Regardless of the outcome, Together is an test you can experience at this very moment.

Together is available to watch on Hulu's platform at present.
